Browns’ quarterback Johnny Manziel will get his first shot at the MVP award this season after winning the award Sunday night in his hometown of Cleveland.
Browns coach Hue Jackson will win the award on Wednesday night in New Orleans.
Browns star QB Josh McCown, who was traded from the Jaguars to the Browns on Wednesday, will receive the award next week, with ESPN NFL analyst Mike Mayock named the winner on Sunday night.
“It’s going to be a pretty special night,” Manziel said after the Browns’ 27-16 victory over the Houston Texans.
“This is where we’re going to win.”
Manziel threw for 328 yards and two touchdowns, while also running for three scores.
The Browns will host the Miami Dolphins on Monday night.
Mayock’s prediction was a bit of a surprise, but the ESPN analyst and author of “The Perfect QB” had predicted the Browns would be 3-1 heading into the game.
“I don’t think we’re as bad as we thought,” Mayock said after Sunday night’s win.
“And I think Josh McCnight’s been really good.”
Browns owner Jimmy Haslam has a history of making a big deal about the MVP and said in his postgame press conference that the team would honor the winner if it wins the award.
“We have a great group of guys on this team, and I want them to be able to win it and I hope we win it, and if not, we’ll take it and we’ll make it up to them,” Haslam said.
Browns head coach Mike Pettine said the team is “still very much focused on this game, but we’ll get ready to go and we’re very excited.”
