New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter has been named the AL MVP after defeating the Kansas City Royals in the World Series.
Jeter’s record-setting season included six home runs and 33 RBIs, while his team was swept by the Cleveland Indians in the ALCS.
He was also named the MVP after leading the American League in batting average, slugging percentage and on-base percentage.
Jeter was named to the MLB All-Star Game, where he was the league MVP in his first season with the Yankees.
The Royals won the American Association Championship Series in six games to win the pennant.
The Royals had the best record in the American league.
The Indians won the A.L. Central division, with a 4-1 record.
The Indians won three straight, including a three-game sweep of the Royals in Game 7.
The Yankees beat the Blue Jays in the ALDS to claim the pennants.
They won the World Championship Series, the first of which was in New York in 2019.
