K.K. Wright will start in place of the injured DeShawn Shead, the Seattle Seahawks announced on Monday.
Wright is expected to miss about six weeks.
Seattle is expected a long-term solution at running back after re-signing rookie Christine Michael and signing rookie Tyler Lockett.
Wright had seven carries for 19 yards in his first start last week against the Chicago Bears.
He had seven catches for 67 yards in a Week 1 loss to Arizona.
The Hawks will likely go into a two-week bye with a new starting quarterback, and the team could use a healthy veteran to help guide them into the postseason.
The team has won three of its last four.
